Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky

After a fourteen year hiatus, Swans recently released My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky in September. This overdue album is hands down one of the best released titles we have seen this year. To quote A.V. Club’s review – this album “resembles all of the Swans’ previous work, yet none of it.”

In this album, Michael Gira rips us from our homes, communities, society, and life and places us into a further, distant dimension. In this dimension we are faced with questions of the life beyond us as Gira explores death and ascension through heavily spiritual themes. In an interview he states that his goal in creating music is “to elevate, to make you levitate, almost having it erase your body and lift you up to Heaven” - which he successfully does in a hauntingly monolithic, melancholy manner as he takes us through this journey.

If you are looking for a transcendental trip, turn on My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky. Take the journey with the Swans. Explore your deepest realities through the hypnotic aggressive, electronic avant-garde post-punk experimental world.

Must listen to track: “You Fucking People Make Me Sick”
