I've completely forgotten about Matt Elliot's, The Third Eye Foundation project and oh my fucking god - now that's called a great and unexpected return. Maybe I will describe "The Dark" later, maybe not. This is a conceptual small masterpiece. Imagine Aphex Twin gangbanged by a whole orchestra in the middle of ambient electronic wasteland. Check it.
After a fourteen year hiatus, Swans recently released My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky in September. This overdue album is hands down one of the best released titles we have seen this year. To quote A.V. Club’s review – this album “resembles all of the Swans’ previous work, yet none of it.” In this album, Michael Gira rips us from our homes, communities, society, and life and places us into a further, distant dimension. In this dimension we are faced with questions of the life beyond us as Gira explores death and ascension through heavily spiritual themes. In an interview he states that his goal in creating music is “to elevate, to make you levitate, almost having it erase your body and lift you up to Heaven” - which he successfully does in a hauntingly monolithic, melancholy manner as he takes us through this journey.

Jestem ograniczonym bucem i z reguły ciężko mi przyswoić płyty z jednym kawałkiem trwającym ponad godzinę. W tym przypadku mamy do czynienia z 78 minutowym miksem IDM'u, ambientu, trip-hopu, muzyki do windy, połamanego drum-n-bass, krypto-orkiestralnych partii które spokojnie sprawdzałyby się jako soundtrack do filmu i cholera wie czego jeszcze. No i tutaj tkwi moc tego albumu i powód dla którego jestem w stanie dotrwać do końca tej płyty z bananem na mordzie. Tu ciągle coś się dynamicznie zmienia. Pierwsze odpalenie tego tytułu jest jak kiranie eteru dietylowego, oglądając filmy Lynch'a. Nie wiadomo co się dzieję, ale klimat jest czadowy. Volker Kahl ( znany także jako Kattoo, którego solowe albumy pewnie tu kiedyś wrzucę ) i Gabor Schablitzki są wszechstronni. Gładko lawirują między różnymi stylistykami (i perfekcyjnie żonglują nastrojami) jednocześnie każdą z nich eksploatując zawsze na wysokim poziomie.
